New to SharePoint 2013 is the ability to export the contents of a SharePoint External List to Microsoft Excel 2013.
In the same way that we Sync to SharePoint Workspace, or Sync to Outlook, you can now click a button from the External List ribbon which will export BCS data to Microsoft Excel.
Microsoft Excel doesn’t just provide a copy of the external data, but instead provides full CRUD functionality back to the external data source. Instead of writing back to the server, the client applications maintain their own direct connection to the external data source.
