Social Squared Wins “most innovative modern workplace solution” at espc22 awards – an evening at the cirkus! copenhagen dk

It was at some point back in the heat of Summer 2022 when we submitted a couple of our products to be considered for the 2022 ESPC awards. Fast forward 2 months and in October we were pleased to learn that our discussion board tool, Social Squared, had been shortlisted alongside Logisam.com and SharePointalist in the “Most Innovative Modern Workplace Solution” category. All we had to do now was keep our fingers crossed and hope that something special might happen come awards night…

The European SharePoint Conference tends to change venue and location from one year to the next, for those who have been in the Microsoft world for some time, this has proven a great way to see some of Europe’s greatest cities over the past decade! The 2022 edition was no exception, and the Microsoft Community descended on Copenhagen, Denmark to enjoy a working week of business days and sociable parties by night. The official ESPC party took place at Cirkusbygningen in downtown Copenhagen.

Brett, Kat and Jarrad about to enter into the party atmosphere at Cirkusbygningen, Copenhagen.

Upon entering the circus we found our way to our table where our waiter announced that he would be both serving us, and singing for us on stage at various times throughout the evening. Shortly after our soup starter, it was announced that the awards would now be taking place. The first category to be announced was “Best Security Solution” which went to Tiberium. And then in the next instant, our category was called. We watched on from our auditorium seats as the 3 finalists were read out, and as the envelope was opened we were over the moon to hear Lightning Tools’ Social Squared read out as the winner!

Lightning Tools’ CEO Brett Lonsdale was more than happy to accept the award at ESPC’s Community Awards.
Brett with Matthias Einig from Rencore who were winners of Best Microsoft 365 Solution.

Once Brett had collected our award, it seemed only fitting to order some fizz and get into the party atmosphere, alongside the tasty 3 course meal, the night unfolded with an evening of live ABBA hits thanks to the performers / waiting staff and a live band whose stage could move backwards and forwards, as well as up and down. Once the live music was done, the tables were cleared and a dancefloor created with a DJ set which went on until the early hours.

Not the average stage for a band to play on!

We would like to express our gratitude to all members of the ESPC team for putting on a great show, and to the judging panel who voted for Social Squared to win the award. To be voted for by a select group of Microsoft staff and MVPs means a great deal to us, so thank you Agnes Molnar, Luise Freese, Jussi Roine, Karuana Gatimu, Heather Newman and Paolo Pialorsi.
