Within this tutorial, we build a SharePoint Designer 2013 External Content Type for Business Connectivity Services (BCS). SharePoint Designer 2013 can be used to build External Content Types for .NET Assemblies, Microsoft SQL Databases, or WCF Services. We demonstrate how to build an External Content Type for a Microsoft SQL Database by building the connection, explaining the authentication options, and generating the Read List, Read Item, Create, Update and Delete operations. There is an explanation on how to create filters on the Read List method with a focus on building the Limit filters. Once the External Content Type is deployed to SharePoint, An External List is used to test the connection and to ensure that the operations work as planned.
