Howzit! Last week Brett from Lightning Tools presented on Business Connectivity Services at SharePoint Saturday Johannesburg. Brett explained why businesses that use SharePoint would benefit from Business Connectivity Services, as well as how to configure the Business Data Web Parts, External Lists, External Data Search, External Data Column and Offline BCS functionality such as the Microsoft Word Quick Parts and SharePoint Workspace. As a platinum sponsor, Lightning Tools was able to demonstrate its products to attendees at SharePoint Saturday. Lightning Tools has not sponsored an event before in South Africa and was pleased to be able to demonstrate our range of products such as DeliverPoint Permissions Management, Social Squared Forums for SharePoint, Lightning Conductor Cross Site Collection Rollup and BCS Meta Man which is used to create BCS connections to external data sources such as Oracle and SQL.
As the event was the first ever ‘Green’ SharePoint Saturday, Lightning Tools organized an auction for each of its four products. The highest bidder would pay his bid to a charity of his choice. We raised 3300 RAND in total for $5000 USD worth of software. Lightning Tools also pledged 10 RAND to charity for each attendee that ‘pitched’ up to the event. The flyer below was used for attendees to submit their bids.
The charity of our choice was The Endangered Wildlife Trust which we successfully contributed 5300 RAND to. You can find more information on EWT here:
